Shara Tibken of Dow Jones visited Albany, NY to report on the advancements the Capital Region is making in the high-tech industry, with unique research and collaboration.
Tibken visited the computer chip lab at SUNY Albany’s College for Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE), home to some of the world’s most advanced research. The lab creates computer chips to ultimately run everything from smartphones to washing machines.
This lab is not ordinary; CNSE is considered to be a Switzerland for semiconductors, and the University serves as the neutral intermediary. Researchers from rival for-profit companies like IBM, and GLOBALFOUNDRIES collaborate in an innovative partnership with the school, without worrying about their technology falling into the competitors’ hands.
