GLOBALFOUNDRIES announced a new “GF Global Scholars Program” to support the International Baccalaureate World School at Ballston Spa High School. The GF Global Scholars Program will provide $20,000 to students that chose to fully enroll as IB Diploma Candidates to help pay examination fees.
The scholarship program will help provide access to Ballston Spa’s new International Baccalaureate (IB) program and prepare local students for the new globally focused and internationally competitive advanced manufacturing career opportunities being created by GF new investment in the Fab 8 project. The new GF Global Scholars Program will also help establish the Ballston Spa IB program as a key company recruitment asset for new families considering relocating to the region. Ballston Spa High School will be the first high school in the Suburban Council to offer IB courses, and one of a small number of public high schools in the state to incorporate IB into the high school curriculum.
GF Vice President of Global Corporate Communications and Ballston Spa alumnus Kevin Kimball said, “As a new and growing global business, we are excited to be a part of this opportunity to support the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. The new GF Global Scholars Program will help engage students, teachers, and the community in a world-wide educational curriculum, enriching the educational opportunities for local students and helping attract talented people from around the world who are specifically interested in the IB program.”
A core value of GF, we not only honor and value the global diversity of our employees, but also extend this philosophy to the environment and the communities in which they operate. The corporate values of integrity, empowerment, and respect align seamlessly with the mission statement of the International Baccalaureate program and that of the Ballston Spa Central School District and their Partnership for Innovation in Education program.
Ballston Spa High School achieved status as an International Baccalaureate World School earlier this year, after a thorough multi-year application process and review. The program offers high school students the opportunity to access an advanced curriculum that is recognized internationally by colleges and universities as one of the most rigorous academic programs for college and career preparation. The average acceptance rate of IB students into a university or college is 22 percentage points higher than the average acceptance rate of all students. The first cohort of IB students will enroll in the fall of 2012.
